I have participated before, but I would skip a lot of weeks. I’m making a point to try to create something every week this year. So far so good.

Next week is “Mushroom”. It was really hard to focus on what I needed to do while taking care of my baby and working a part time job at night. Now due to certain circumstances I had to give up my job and find income elsewhere. When I go out I have a lot of people asking me about my tree of life pendants, so I am now organizing them and trying to get more of them listed on my Etsy and my Facebook page. I even have an updated business card.
I just didn't feel right not doing art in some form or another. I've been drawing coloring pages and hope to create a coloring book. I've been making more trees and I believe I'm even improving my technique. I still make my gnomes and my newest hobby is painting rocks. I plan to start updating this site more often and not only blogging about my art. I may write about my latest creation, my spirituality, raising my toddler, or even share plant based info and recipes. Here's to being active again!

LunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-72588624915088609032011-05-26T23:11:00.000-07:002014-09-14T10:45:38.425-07:00OrganizingPhew - just got my blog organized - it looks now like it will go better with my main Studio Nocturna site. I'm in the process of re-designing all my sites and defining their purpose. I've decided Studio Nocturna is my main site encompassing all I do - but it's main focus will be as a gallery for my photography, digital art, and One of a Kind creations like my spirit dolls and some of my jewelry. Luna Rose Creations will be the home of my ritual crafts and it will be getting a new look - more of a pagans in the woods kinda feel is what I want. Harvest Angel Creations will be the home to my production jewelry (glass and gemstone earrings, necklaces and bracelets that are not one-offs) and my non-ritual candles, and anything else I happen to make that doesn't have a mainly pagan theme. I may include my Catholic style rosaries there - I haven't decided if I just want to make it Christian friendly or spiritually neutral. It really needs work but I want to get my main three sites done first. While I'm doing all that in my virtual space I'm also trying to do the same in my real space. I need to make my office/craft room/altar room more useable and less of a crazy cluttered mess. And I have to do all this while working full time at my regular job. I'm probably going to let my World of Warcraft subscription go for a little while until I get caught up.LunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-51179231445401274692011-03-19T23:52:00.001-07:002011-03-19T23:52:42.906-07:00I started looking at my blog here again last night after referring a friend to one of my postings and realized my last post here was just under a year ago when I was getting ready for the spring craft and pagan festivals. I haven't been using this blog like I intended and that's gonna change this year.

I will probably start with some older projects and writings. I haven't done a lot of new stuff in the last few months but I did create quite a few things in the early half of the year. I made a wedding spirit for a couple as their wedding gift, an Ogunn altar spirit commissioned by an online fan, several sculpted goddess pendants, gamer dice pendants, and runes. Last year was also the year I developed my god pendants to compliment the goddess pendants. Once festival season was over I seemed to have lost my inspiration and productivity. All I really felt like doing from summer onward was playing World of Warcraft. Part of it was a rush to get a character or two caught up with my friends before the new expansion changed everything. I still plan to keep playing but I want to balance my time better.

I don't go to the Flying Monkey artist market anymore because a lot of things are changing that made it seem not worth the time and effort. I'm going to focus on online sales and whatever festivals and conventions I can do this year. I'd love to do some sci-fi cons soon too, since I started making things gamers and fantasy fans like too. I want to blog and write more- even if it meas bringing my netbook to work so I can type between deliveries. So this year I need to balance playing my favorite game, getting my health back on track, doing crafts and working on websites, my spirituality, and working full time.LunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-32769353665099781772010-04-08T23:44:00.000-07:002010-04-09T00:26:39.188-07:00Vending in Fayetteville TennesseeI'm getting set up to vend in Fayetteville, Tennessee at the Southern Weekend of Art event April 16 & 17. I just bought my very first EZ-UP tent - which wasn't too easy to set up after all. Hopefully it will be easier now that I know how to do it. Setting it up in my mom's back lot helped me get an idea of the size of the banner area so we could finally design my sign. I'm really happy with how it turned out. Now I owe her a whole lot more website work

I've heard this event gets a lot of traffic - so I hope it's worth what I spent on the tent plus taking three days off from work. Not to mention my materials and time! I'm trying to get my website more use-able as well. I need to finish making new candles since I signed up as mainly a candle vendor for this event. I finished my Naturals Series and started on my new Coffee Shop series. Candy Shoppe will be next and I need to make a few more of my Luna Rose Originals. I've updated the Candles page of my site to list my current scents from the new series of candles.

I will vend some of my jewelry - especially my dice and potion bottle pendants, and my earrings. The rules for this event require 75% of my display to be my primary craft. Of course I will have my oils available as well.

When I vend at Moondance in May I will have a mainly pagan table. I will start soon on new ritual, sabbat, and deity candles. I will have several rune sets available, prayer beads, oils, and my gemstone jewelry. I hope the weather will be ok to bring out some of my spirit dolls. Is May actually next month? Maybe I should playing less World of Warcraft and doing more crafting!LunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-12977567954945648002010-03-25T23:16:00.000-07:002010-03-25T23:55:09.114-07:00New Candles Cooling NowI've decided to create a series of candles that are 100% natural using soy wax and only essential oils, no fragrance oils and no artificial colors. The first scents available in the Luna Rose Creations Naturals series are: Lavender-Rosemary, Patchouli, Sunshine (a spicy citrus blend), Citrus Mint, Cinnamon, Spice, and Orange Spice. I have glass votive candles cooling now in these scents. Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to increase my candle prices. I sat down and figured the per candle cost of materials - not including production time and the overhead costs of my home workspace - just the materials and realized I'm barely making a profit. And that is with the materials I bought recently. I started out buying my wax at hobby stores, which costs way more than my online source. So it looks like I've been selling my previous candles at a loss. It looks like I have to increase my price to at least $4 a votive, if not up to $5... I'll need to calculate how much wax goes into my bigger jelly jars to decide how much they need to be. I really hate having to raise my prices, but I realized I am working with the best prices for my materials I can find.

I plan to re-open my Luna Rose Creations Etsy account to list my candles and my non-ritual perfume oils, as well as any soaps, bath salts and lotions.

Studio Nocturna is all about the art and jewelry creations, and my newest account WebWitch is just for the spiritual ritual tools - ritual candles, runes, pendulums, prayer beads, oils, voodoo dolls, spell kits, etc... I'm doing this to keep my main account from getting too jumbled up to handle.

I will have more candles in the works soon. I have stocked up on 4 oz jelly jars as well. I have a few potential festivals I want to vend at this spring so I'm trying to get ready as much as I can. I want to do more spell bottle pendants and dice jewelry as well. So many ideas and plans... so little time...LunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-28107700496791799942009-10-07T20:29:00.000-07:002011-05-26T23:00:56.026-07:00New house = new studio

So we moved into a new house... and the fun part now is unpacking and organizing... Tonight it's lit in honor of the full moon. I was hoping to use the full moon energy tonight for some creative work but I feel like this is more of a cleansing time... maybe since I ended up on the beginning of the waning phase of the moon it was time to clean out cluttered energy. I have a ways to go with that but I guess that's what I'll use the Full Moon to Dark Moon period to accomplish this month. My creative energy seems to be requiring a less cluttered environment. Besides - we're house-hunting and will be moving in a couple months. I would like to have my supplies organized before the move this time instead of throwing everything into a box and figuring out where things might fit after the move. Of course there will be some of that anyways having to work with a new space - but it will be easier if it's all together this time. There's so much to re-consider for a new space. Do I want to have my altar in my creative space - will I have room for it there? Or will it be better in the living room? Or will space be so limited I need to keep my altar put away until I need to set up for ritual? Having a yard, I'd love to build some kind of outdoor shrine - I really can't wait until I can do outdoor rituals again! So much to do and decide - and only two months to do it!LunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-65970331389272499502009-06-03T20:44:00.000-07:002009-06-03T23:08:44.854-07:00Rune Crafting and The Norse GodsI've been working on my glass runes again. It took me two nights to sort all my glass gems into their color groups. I have plenty to work with. I need to get the ones I have done on etsy soon! Usually when I get into working with the runes I start feeling a connection to the Norse gods - this time I'm really feeling drawn to the gods of my ancestors. I've been wanting to create a spirit doll of Freya at some point - maybe that will happen soon. I got a really cool Thor's Hammer pendant with a dragon wrapped around it and have been wearing it constantly. I started reading Essential Asatru by Diana L. Paxson and a couple books on rune magick. I think being away from the influence of my ex-friend who hated the Norse gods has finally opened me their call. I still love Oya from the Ifa pantheon, Erzulie Dantor and Papa Legba from the vodou pantheon, Ganesh, Kali, and Shiva from the Hindu pantheon, and the Celtic goddess Brighid as well as the angels. Yes I am very eclectic. I doubt I would ever be a dedicated traditional Asatru practioner, but I am going to learn about and listen to the gods of my ancestors now.LunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-13605193519233123722009-04-14T14:07:00.000-07:002009-04-14T14:08:48.475-07:00Latest Ritual Creations Prosperity custom oil bottle. The main things that seem to sell lately are my candles and oils. But there is interest in my other spiritual creations - so I keep bringing almost everything I do. That's becoming a lot to haul back and forth every week. I'm really wishing I had a real storefront but I'd need the customers to justify and support the cost of renting a space somewhere. I'd like to at least rent a space at the artist market but they don't have any open spaces available. If I did have my own pagan/occult shop my intent would not be to compete with the couple stores I know of around here since it would be mostly based on the ritual tools and supplies I create. I would probably supplement those things with resale pagan items, but it wouldn't be the main thing I do. I really feel like it's my spiritual calling to be able to offer my ritual creations to the world and each year I feel a stronger push to get out there and do it - but now it seems its not the right time because of the economy. It doesn't seem to be a good idea to open up a shop when people are not really up to spending money on "extras". Yet I keep feeling this push and I keep creating. I feel fulfilled creating spiritual things, but I need to make sales to re-supply my creative habits.LunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-67582098419406175902009-01-12T00:24:00.000-08:002009-01-12T00:25:53.639-08:00New OilsI got my new vials in! I try to use as much natural materials as I can. I rarely use paraffin but when I do I try to use premium quality paraffin which burns cleaner than the lower quality wax. I use essential oils whenever possible unless I cannot find the scent I need after searching every source. My next batch will be Jar candles only, since I'm now out of votive holders. Photos of the actual candles will be available after they cool!

Yule Spice - one of the first oil blends I ever created - Frankinscense, Myrrh, Orange, Cinnamon, Clove, Nutmeg, and Tonka bean for a hint of a vanilla scent - 100% Essential oils in natural palm wax. 3 glass votives available now.

Evergreen - Rosemary and Pine essential oils. Cranberry Orange colored soy wax. 2 votives, 1 jar available.

Winter Mint - peppermint, wintergreen essential oils and vanilla fragrance oil. Red soy wax. 1 jar, one large votive available. I intended this batch to be pink but it looks like it will cool darker than I hoped. I finally found the notebook where I wrote down my original blends and now I've decided on a new label. I originally used "Luna Rose Creations" with an older version of my logo of my goddess design on a pentacle. It seemed that logo was not going over well at a new age festival I was vending at. For the last year or so I have been using my winged goddess design with two crescent moons and a spiral. I can thank my mom for coming up with that modification to my logo! I recently labeled my oils as "Studio Nocturna Oil Blends" because I've been selling my creations under my Studio Nocturna website. I finally decided on Magickal Oils by Luna Rose since Luna Rose Nocturna is my craft name and Studio Nocturna is the name of my site and online shoppe.

I'm also re-vamping some of my recipes and the way I make them. I now only make my oils in small batches instead of trying to create large master bottles full. This also means I end up using a larger percentage of essential oils vs. carrier oil. I now blend primarily with sweet almond oil as a carrier - in the past I used safflower oil - a good light base but it didn't hold the scent as long. I sometimes use Jojoba or a blend of Jojoba and Almond. I'm also adding herbs, resins, and crystals in each bottle in many of my blends, not just the master batch. This means I might no longer be offering my oils in a 1 dram size, except for the ones I already have prepared. I'm planning to order new bottles soon in half ounce and 2 dram sizes.
The half ounce will look similar to this, which I poured into a recycled cobalt blue 1/3 ounce bottle. I actually have made a Samhain 2008 doll but don't have photos yet.

Samhain 2007

Autumn Goddess

Autumn Majesty

Abundant HarvestLunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-64978161605225169832008-07-15T00:08:00.000-07:002008-12-10T07:40:05.025-08:00Goddess Rosary ritual

Goddess Rosary
I have written these prayers to be generic rather than be biased towards any one path. Feel free to alter the wording to suit your personal path. These instructions are meant to be guidelines for your personal meditation. They are written from a woman’s point of view, but men can substitute terms where necessary.

Elemental Beads
This is essentially a circle casting and invoking of the Elements. Holding your rosary, face, nod, or gesture in the direction of each element. Start with the first elemental bead on the tail and move up and around the rosary.

Air/East–
Lords of Air breathe into me. Clear my mind as I commune with the Goddess. As I Will it – So Mote it Be!

Fire/South –
Lords of Fire, light a creative spark within me. Enhance my passion for her as I commune with the Goddess. As I Will it – So Mote it Be!

Water/West –
Ladies of Water, wash your cleansing waves over me. Teach me to listen to my intuition as I commune with the Goddess. As I Will it – So Mote it Be!

Earth/North –
Ladies of Earth, Strengthen me, heal me and keep me grounded. Connect me with the Divine within the Earth as I commune with the Goddess. As I Will it – So Mote it Be!

On the Charm – Akasha – Spirit or the four Elements unified:
Akasha, Spirit of all things! Essence of Magick that connects us all. Flow through me and open my eyes to Magick! Flow within and awaken my Spirit!

Trinity Beads
This is the set of three beads between the first two elemental beads. On these beads invoke your personal deities. I suggest invoking the Mother, Maiden, and Crone aspects of the Goddess if you want to keep your meditation totally on the Goddess. If you feel that the God should always be invoked along with the Goddess, then invoke the God, the Goddess and then Both unified, or any combination of your choice.

Goddess Beads
Start with the set of beads to the right of the center connector. This is a prayer
to the Maiden. Focus on your need or desire and how the Maiden Goddess can help you then chant once for each of the nine beads:

Maiden Goddess, teach me to be more like you, independent and joyful, through and through. Dance in my heart and I’ll always be young – as I chant your rhythms and sing your songs. Blessed be! (Meditate on the joyful energy the Maiden brings and focus on strong independent maiden goddesses such as Artemis or Athena)

On the Second set chant a prayer to the Mother Goddess:

Mother Goddess, help me to be strong, calm, and wise – your daughter forever in your Lunar eyes. Bless my family and strengthen my heart, as merry us meet and merry us part! Blessed be! (The Mother is the one to focus on for fertility in all things – whether physical or involving creative inspiration. Also appeal to her if you need help maintaining a stable life at home)

On third set chant a prayer to the Crone:

Wise Crone, bring your wisdom into my life so that I may be the perfect lover, woman and wife. Help me keep mature outlook with experienced eyes as your light shines through me with power and might. Blessed Be! (The Crone is the ancient wise one, the grandmother of us all, go to her when you need her wisdom)

After your prayers, thank the elements and the Goddess for their blessings and presence. Repeat as often as you feel the need!

©2005 Kristina MearsLunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-14548976441517727662008-02-03T01:51:00.000-08:002008-12-10T07:40:05.144-08:00Just finished : Elemental Spirit set
I've been wanting to do this set since I started making Spirit Dolls... I have done the elementals - all but air individually but none were close enough in style and size to sell as a set - besides my earth elemental was the first doll to find a new home, water called my sister-in-law, and the fire elemental (I call him Sparky) decided to stay with me...

I will be posting better photos and even a blog showing some of the process sometime later...LunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3385565965872047646.post-35781719638244158182008-01-31T00:10:00.001-08:002008-01-31T00:21:59.532-08:00Dreamer Spirt Doll

Dreamer is a reiki charged spirit doll made especially to help with sleep and dreams. What I create is usually based on the traditional style of a voodoo doll with herbs, gemstones, colors, symbols, etc decorating the doll and charging it. Each doll is charged with Reiki and represents a certain spirit, god, goddess, angel, lwa, orisha, or elemental - or even abstracts like hope, peace, love, dreams... I think the thing that really sets my work apart from some others is the detailed sculpting and/or painting I add to the faces... I also feel for some reason spirits are represented with feathers - it's just something I did from the first dolls I created, some have sculpted feathers, all have feathers attached... Each doll pretty much makes it self as my hands put together the pieces. I go into each doll's creation with a plan of what I want to represent, but the rest of the way there's no telling how it will come out as I intuitively choose the parts that fit the theme...LunaRoseNocturnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05620362354136328230noreply@blogger.com0
